Rating: My bookshelf

Reading level: Early Elementary

These timeless classics are full of great messages of kindness and adventure. I like that the children show kindness even to those who aren’t particularly kind to them.

Mystery Ranch has a message of forgiveness and reconciliation, and Mike’s Mystery sets an example of charity to those who are in need.

Possible Concerns:

  • Peril. Mike’s Mystery has a bit of scariness with a criminal setting fire to a home and planning further destruction. But as usual with the Boxcar children: all is well in the end.

Just an idea: Families could use this pair of books to inspire a bit of a history lesson about the Uranium boom in the 1950’s and how it relates to the cold war and to the use of Uranium for energy (a Chemistry lesson)?
