Rating: My Bookshelf

Reading Level: Early Elementary

I’m really thankful for my sister-in-law who recommended this series.

Possible Concerns:

  • Peril. I actually was scared when reading it, which is kind of funny because it is meant for children! To be fair, I think that some of my previous experiences watching The Gladiator added to my imagination, so my brain may have been picturing worse than what the book actually offered.

Just like with Book 1: Voyage with the Vikings, there is a lot like:

  • Educational. There is some historical truth about how Christians stood up for social justice in ancient Roman times. The main characters encounter real historical figures, which can springboard more historical study.
  • Excitement. The adventures are thrilling.
  • Age-appropriate. There is no inappropriate young romance or excessive gore.

The reading level is about the same as The Boxcar Children.
