Rating: I like it BUT some families may not
Reading Level: Early Elementary, Mid-late Elementary
I’m so glad my son’s 1st grade teacher recommended this one! A sweet tale of how hard work, good friends, a positive attitude, and loyalty can transform a place. I love the charming, vibrant characters & Anna’s leadership & values.
Possible Concerns:
- One mention of bars. There is one mention of “bars” (taverns) on the boulevard.
- Cabaret/Magic Show. The big performance, which at one point is called a cabaret, is also mentioned as a magic show.
- Luck. At the very end the main character crosses her fingers for luck.
As for me, none of these are enough to outweigh the sweet story of a girl’s hard work, determination, intentional delegation, loyalty, and commitment to stand up for what’s right. (And you’ve just got to meet Madame Le Pig. She’s a squeal!)
I also recommend Hotel Flamingo: Holiday Heat Wave (Book 2 in the series)!
