This wasn’t my favorite book to read… It moved kind of slowly for me (okay okay I get it you have a dragon and you can’t believe it… let’s get on with the story!). Nevertheless, I liked that it was rather creative, that the main character has a great relationship with his grandpa (except when he lies to him), and he also is sweet to his little sister.
Potential concerns:
- Potty humor
- He lies to authorities to keep his pet dragon a secret
- There is a grouchy neighbor who assumes the boy is vandalizing his home when the boy is innocent
Although I don’t like how books these days have kids always hiding things from their parents, it’s hard to get away from these days (e.g., Magic Treehouse series, etc.) So in the spirit of promoting imagination, I’d probably let this one in my home, even if it isn’t my favorite.
