In general, I’d allow this on my bookshelf even though I don’t like how a little girl initially handles it when her parents say “no” to her getting a pet cat. She begs & pleads, then she negotiates and nearly manipulates the other parent. I just don’t want my kids thinking that is appropriate when they hear “no.”

As time goes on, she is just sad (& I’m ok with that). She grieves by drawing pictures of the cat. Now she is not being manipulative, but eventually the parents give in.

The rest of the story is downright sweet & reminds me of a youthful version of The Incredible Journey. The cat perseveres and meets a few characters along the way.

Although I didn’t like the little girl’s behavior, I’m interested in trying another one of Holly Webb’s Pet Rescue Adventure Series.

This one has a really sweet spirit of love and themes of value and identity.
