Rating: Needs Parent Supervision, I like it BUT some families may not

Reading Level: Late Elementary, Middle School

This another winner, as long as you can chat with your kid about some of the issues and your kid has the maturity to handle these Possible Concerns:

  • Fart/poop/bare bottom jokes.
  • Some gore/poison/violence.
  • Bullying, name-calling, as with Book 1.
  • References to Norse Mythology. “By Thor!”, and “Woden is angry,” “Valhalla” as heaven, etc.
  • Treachery (backstabbing), and greed.

The biblical themes are again superb and some new strong themes arise in this book:

  • Standing up to who you are, as an heir in a kingdom
  • A father’s reckless, unrelenting love
  • The deceitfulness of wealth and how a true king might leave it behind.
  • Again, an unlikey, seemingly weak young boy is the future king and heir (It reminds me of King David).
  • Loving your enemies even if they don’t ever respond accordingly.

It is so good!!! This is another one I would have it on my bookshelf and just remember to talk to my kids about the inappropriate bullying and Norse mythology.
