Rating: My Bookshelf
Young readers will enjoy the fast paced, cooperative science-loving team as they adventure in these sci-fi novels.
Things I like:
- Enthusiasm for science
- One boy’s family is Hispanic, and the mom uses a couple Spanish words (e.g. “Bueno,” “Chiquita”)
- The main character agrees to help his mom by watching his little sister while mom makes breakfast
- Frequent illustrations and large type make this a great, manageable read for young ones (see sample below).
Minor Hesitations:
- The boy is slightly ride when his mom offers pancakes: ”In a minute, mom.” Rather than “yes, please, in a minute.”
- Stranger danger: the kids enter a strange scientist’s house with no adult permission or supervision.
A quick reminder of stranger danger would be a good complement to this otherwise clean and exciting adventure.
