Rating: Not for Me

Reading level: Early Elementary

Possible concerns:

  • Spookiness. This book caters to the little reader who likes all things spooky, haunted, and Halloween. But as for me and my 2nd grader, this was a bit too much spook.
  • Villians are the only dark-skinned people. (spoiler alert!) I didn’t like that the villains ended up being the only two characters depicted as having dark skin. We don’t need to be training our kids to expect crime from people of color.
