Rating: Not for me or Needs Parent Supervision (religious views)

Reading Level: Early Elementary

My kid is doing a book genre challenge and needs to do the “myths legends” category. This category has been tough for me to find something I’m excited about my impressionable 2nd grader reading.

The premise of Mythical Beasts is great: for example, here is how the mythical Phoenix is similar to real creatures, etc. However, many of the myths are linked to false gods and how-the-earth was created legends that conflict with the Bible’s take.

If you’re looking for chances to challenge your kids to think about other religions and how ridiculous it would be to worship made-up half-animal  gods, then this might be for you. But remember: the Bible has crazy beasts with mixed up features too (e.g., Daniel 7, Revelation 4).  The difference is we don’t worship those beasts; everyone (including the beasts) points to one God and serves Him alone.
