Rating: Needs Parent Supervision
I am rating the short stories in this collection separately because they are all so different, some of which are not for me.
A fascinating true (!) story about a (SPOILER ALERT!) farmer who stumbles upon a huge ancient Roman treasure. The prologue to the story sets up a remarkable and memorable read. I especially liked that the farmer senses danger as soon as he realizes what he has stumbled upon, and that he goes immediately to his superiors instead of hoarding the treasure away for himself.
My two hesitations: The farmer likens the storm to a “moody woman,” and parents should know that although this story is lovely, others in the same book are not particularly lovely at all, or would be better for an older audience. That is why I have rated it as needing Parent Supervision.
Important note: I don’t rate all the stories in this collection equally; please beware of others with different ratings that may not be appropriate for your reader.
