Rating: Not for me
I am rating the short stories in this collection separately because they are all so different, some of which are not for me.
Not my favorite of Roald Dahl’s creative work. (SPOILER ALERT!) There is a lot of talk of grownups with their tropical drinks (which is why I rated it at Middle School level), and a boy throws a temper tantrum in defense of a giant turtle, and then comes near enough to the animal be in danger. His father pays handsomely to have the turtle released, after which the boy turns up missing. He is seen riding the turtle in the ocean and several years later seen on an island with the turtle. As a ship approaches he hops on the turtle and takes off with it again, never to rejoin society.
I didn’t find this one nearly as satisfying as other stories by Roald Dahl. The one thing I did take away is that with all authors, not every attempt is a wondrously popular chart-smashing best-seller. This one was not as good as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or many of his other stories, but I guess that’s helpful to know when we all are trying our hand at writing or anything else that is new for us.
Important note: I don’t rate all the stories in this collection equally; please beware of others with different ratings that may not be appropriate for your reader.
