Rating: I like it BUT some families may not
Reading level: Middle School
The romance progresses, the action continues, and the ridiculous incompetence of grown-ups is exacerbated in this Friday Barnes Mystery. You’ll be happy with it if you liked the previous Friday Barnes Mysteries: Girl Detective, Under Suspicion, and Big Trouble.
Here are my hesitations about recommending this one:
- Romance. The love saga with Ian progresses; mention of his good looking body with shirt off among other comments about physique or sex appeal.
- Disrespect of Authorities (albeit somewhat warranted). Disrespectful comments about a teacher who insists on having his shirt off at a hotel pool.
- Incompetent Teachers. The incompetency/apathy of the teachers rises (yet again) to a new level. This time there is playfulness using the teachers union as a means of being lazy.
If my kids could handle being in the world but not of the world, then the entertainment is superb. I’d let them check these out from the library and probably want to read with them. I recognize that might not be the case for every family.
Here are reviews of other books in the series:
