If you are expecting a cute, teenage-appropriate Rom-Com, you’re in for a surprise. Think more edgy—good girl goes kind of bad, moral compromise, justifying lying or using someone, and superficiality underneath a cover of an altruistic agenda. It isn’t great.

Why did I read it?  Well for my review audience of course—it had nothing to do with the fact that I was dying to know if the main character ended up confessing her love for the steady, reliable, nerdy heartthrob.

The worst part of it all was when she finally ended up with him she says she reaches self-actualization, which she has been seeking for the past three books, and which you and I both know could never be achieved by winning the temporary affection of a pimple-faced teenage boy (even if he is something to write about with his shirt off).

There are more issues — all of which are pretty much in the previous two books: Princess Diaries and Princess Diaries: Princess in the Spotlight. I’d encourage you to check out those reviews before deciding if this one is ok for your reader. In my opinion, these books are appropriate for adults but I wouldn’t encourage it for the target audience, which is presumably about freshmen in high school.
