Well I went from an opponent to a fan in about 10 seconds. An opponent because the kittens were disobeying their mother and keeping secrets from her. But then the mother teaches her kittens:
“I’m not mad, my darlings, but you must promise not to keep things from me anymore. It’s a kitten’s job to be curious, but not secretive.”
BINGO! Yes!!! Where is this idea in the rest of children’s literature? When will other authors stop encouraging children to hide things from parents?
Other themes I liked in this one:
- Reconciling relationships
- Working together as a team
- Problem solving/compromise
- Kindness & manners instead of gruffness/defensiveness
- Husbands & wives complimenting & honoring each other.

I visited my library’s website & placed holds on two other books in the series. I loved The Fantastic Rabbit Race.
