I love the baseball trivia, love the generally clean and creative plots. My only hesitations:

  • A couple references to luck
  • There is a stalker that follows the family so that he can steal intell on a baseball team.
  • The kids confront a crook themselves instead of letting their parent(s) help and get involved. This is common in kids’ books and it drives me bananas. (How about letting your awesome parent in on your plot to frame the bad guy?!!)
  • Kate’s parents are divorced; if a breakup is sensitive for your family you might take a pass on this one. That said, they all seem well-adjusted to the issue.
  • Book 2 in the series is to do with ghosts. I haven’t finished it, but I know the central plot is about a suspicion that a team is being haunted. Personally, I’m not into paranormal stories for kids. To be clear: this book speaks nothing of ghosts, but I know when kids get hooked on a series sometimes it can be tough when they want to read them all if one has an issue you don’t like.

For me the good outweighs the bad and this book is pretty good for being in the world but not of it. Also, I just love learning about baseball stadiums and teams’ histories!
