Rating: My bookshelf

Quirky characters and big dreams are woven together in this early-reader-type chapter book. Although not as deeply moving as DiCamillós Because of Winn Dixie, I still was drawn to enjoy the characters in Leroy’s story. This one is meant for a younger reader.

Before reading this, it seemed it would be best to be familiar with the Mercy Watson series. I haven’t gone deep into that series and still enjoyed Leroy Ninker. However, without knowing Mercy very well, the ending landed less solidly as it might have if I had a stronger connection with Mercy and friends.
