Rating: My bookshelf

A rambunctious youngster grapples with the phenomenon of growing up. Her friend’s teenaged older brother doesn’t want to play pretend games with the girls anymore, and her dog doesn’t fit into baby clothes anymore.

There is a bit of potty/body humor when the dog throws up or poops, but otherwise no major concerns.

Side note: The main character has a mom and a nanny and no mention of a dad. There is no discussion or explanation (and everyone seems well-adjusted). Seems ok (perhaps even a healing example) even if your young reader’s family also has no father living at home.

An excerpt is given below to show the reading level. Silly illustrations by Kelly Collier add spunk to the story.
