Rating: Needs Parent Supervision (Keeping Secrets from Parents)
Level: Mid-late Elementary
Possible Concerns:
- Like most superheroes, teenaged Ms. Marvel must keep her superhero identity secret from her family. Kids should know that there is absolutely never reason for them to do the same.
- Thor in her room alone with her. Once she realizes who he is, Ms. Marvel takes Thor into her room with her alone to discuss superhero stuff, and she hides him when her dad comes. Not a great idea to bring strang men into your bedroom, ladies–even if you have several action figures of them in your toy box.
Things I liked:
- Modest female uniform. High-cut shirt with no major cleavage, and no other women’s uniforms to speak of.
- Earnest battle to manage crime-fighting and school and friendship demands. Generally a respect for school and desire to honor friendships.
- Age-appropriate villains and battles.
- Graphic-novel-ish feel but reads more like a chapter book. A good hybrid.
