Belle goes on an adventure to rescue the Prince and ends up making new friends, reuniting a divided family, and using innovation to save a kingdom. I was pleasantly surprised that this Disney sequel has little to critique. Romance is not overly glorified, and Belle is not portrayed as a helpless beauty but rather a strong, creative, supportive young woman.

Potential concerns. Some families may not like:

  • Magical objects (typical of fantasy) are present and active
  • There is a bit of deception, but Belle tends to try to come clean
  • Families who have recently lost a parent or spouse should be prepared for some recollection of heartbreaking loss.
  • Belle is strong-willed and does not listen when her husband asks her to leave him behind and flee to her safety. Some may call this valliant; others may not like her lack of discretion or submission to his wishes.

As for me, I’m delighted to have a great role model of what a princess cause her power, wits, brain, and other resources to solve problems and mend brokenness.
