Most of of the stories had great morals about friendship and overcoming the stigma of princessdom to be authentic and seek simplicity.
However, I had major issues with two of the stories:
- Ariel and the Seahorse Race has a daughter deliberately disobeying her Father’s orders.
- Dreams under the Sea has Ariel fantasizing via a mock wedding to Prince Eric-before he even knows who she is! Girls should guard their hearts and this was an unhealthy model of the exact opposite.
There was another mermaid story with a good lesson so I haven’t picked on her just because I’m a conservative about how girls should be dressing!
Bottom line: cut the two above stories out and just beware, as usual with Disney, of idolizing romance and true love, unrealistic body figure shapes, and also objectifying “the prince” by his status.
