Age appropriate historical fiction set in WWII. I like several references to prayers. That said, there was a lot of intensity and horror that is unfortunately likely true to the times.
Possible Concerns:
- Seeing a teacher shot by Nazis. The teacher falls into a river, presumably dead.
- Witnessing many soldiers being shot down on the shores of Normandy; ocean water red with blood
- Finding out his mother has been secretly working for the resistance against the Nazis.
- Finding a parachuter in a tree with blood dripping from him; he appears dead.
- Running with the parachuter, being chased by the Nazis with a hunting dog.
- References to a Jewish friend and his family being taken away by Nazis
- References to a father being in the French army, taken prisoner by Nazis and placed in a concentration camp. They haven’t heard from him for 4 years.
Also perhaps of issue:
- Reference to a legendary dragon protecting a castle
Despite the scary events, it still pays excellent attention to the brave soldiers and resistance civilians who fought against Hitler’s evil regime.
