Rating: My bookshelf
Reading Level: Early Elementary
A young boy learns he has a connection with a dragon and learns to embrace it. I like that he has a good relationship with his parents.
Possible Concerns:
- Fantasy. Magic, occult (dragons talking to him out of the fire).
- Competing loves. A mentor tells him he must love his dragon more than his parents. In the end he learns to make room for both in his heart.
- Identity struggles. The main character has trouble believing he is truly meant to work with dragons.
I think my rating may change depending on what agenda shows up in the next books in the series. For now, the strong, healthy relationship with parents is refreshing (especially for kids books), and I think the true identity as a Dragonseer reflects a deeper spiritual reality that we all are created for a purpose and have the ability to fight an unseen spiritual battle.
