A clever, amicable dragon wishes he had magic powers so he could overcome a powerful, evil villain. A major theme is that of whether it is ok to control others for “the greater good,” e.g.to force peace. This book would could open up great conversations about free will: if you create a dragon and force it to magically love you, is it really love? If you could firce dragons to live without war would you do it?
Possible concerns:
Magic. Using magic is a primary theme.
Violence. Dragons eat/fight/kill/imprison each other, humans, and beasts.
Oppressive rulers. Wars, treason, tyranny, etc. In this case there is also a mind-controlling tyrant.
Darkness. Starting with Book 6, the books just got really dark and especially full of the occult. It was a bit heavy for me and affected my mood.
Romance. Several dragons have crushes, and crushes end up being a major part of this quintet (much more than in the firs ton)..
Conservatives on the structure of the family may wish to know the final chapters include subtle references to same-sex crushes/marriages.
