Rating: My bookshelf

Reading level: Mid-late Elementary, Middle School

I can’t speak to her original, but this adapted version is well suited for a young reader.

Possible concerns:

  • A near obsession with women getting married, which is admittedly true to the time.
  • Lawrence smokes a cigar
  • Beth (a sister) passes away as a relatively young girl

My only other qualm is that my particular version had printing errors; some sections missing although page numbers aligned, repeated phrases that made no sense, etc. But from what I could make of it things were relatively tame and wholesome for this abridged edition.

*Note: the actual full unabridged version includes girls pretending to be witches, mention of kind spirits being in the room, and potentially other concerns not given here.
