Rating: Not for me

Reading Level: Early Elementary; Mid-late Elementary

Although I’m rating this book as Not for Me, I admittedly thought it was super funny and clever. Primary Concerns:

  • There was a ton of extreme potty and body humor. For example, People carry poop in their hands and high five it all over themselves (see images below) and a sketch artist draws someone’s bare bottom.
  • Substance use (smoking cigars) leading to an explosion.
  • I don’t like how a teacher is posited as a villain. (See images below.)

That said, there are great things like positive views on books and reading, and creativity in problem solving.

Disclaimer: My husband and son saw the Dogman movie and thought it was great.

Body/Potty humor: The police officers high five and splat poop in themselves; later Dogman is shown exerting to make a poop in the chief’s office.
