Rating: My bookshelf
Reading Level: Early Elementary
A pair of siblings time-travel to the beginning of time and witness the creation of the earth. It is clear the author wants to instill a biblical worldview in children; (SPOLIER ALERT!) the major theme is God Created Everything.
Possible Concerns:
- Unbiblical embellishments and events. The author is clearly trying to teach kids from Genesis, but this is fiction, and two kids are witnessing creation. Many aspects of the kids’ experience are not exactly biblical, such as two humans being there before God created light, the archangel Michael serves as their tour guide, Satan talks to the children and mixes them up with Adam and Eve, and so on. So if you don’t like fiction taking liberties, this may not be for your family.
- Sibling jealousy. The main character is jealous of his older sister knowing everything
Nevertheless, for me, the net gain was positive. I’ve always had trouble remembering the order of what was created in what day, and this book gave me vivid imagery to help me sort it out.
