A girl enters a fantasy world and discovers her missing father my be held captive there. She discovers her skills as a creative and her dependence in a Christ-like figure who is always there for her.
Here are some possible concerns that may be an issue for your family:
- Uninvolved parent. We learn that a bully kid has a Dad who makes empty promises and doesn’t stick around.
- Bullying. Lilly stands up to a bully, who ends up entering the fantasy land with her.
- Missing parent. Lilly’s dad is missing and presumed dead. Lilly’s mom struggles to manage on her own.
- Magic. This is a fantasy land. The Christ figure is a magical unicorn. Merlin the magician is a protagonist.
Overall, I appreciated the strong messages of courage, friendship, Christ’s omnipresence, and God’s ultimate victory.
This book is also highly recommended by Christian parent reviews.com, although we came to our decisions independently.
