Reading level: Early Elementary

A boy is the only one in class who can understand a genius hamster who likes to share science/history/geography facts.

Possible Concerns:

  • Age of the earth. Conservatives on the age of the earth won’t like a few science references to millions of years ago
  • Potty/body humor. Jokes about playing with poop (see image below), whales throwing up, etc.
  • Poor teaching. The teacher tends to fall asleep during class because she stays up all night watching infomercials.
  • Negative views of school. The school is called Boerring Elementary (hinting that it is boring).
  • Angel/demon picture (see image below).
  • Name calling. (See below).
  • Mention of his friend being slow (intellectually).

Things I liked:

  • History/Science facts throughout. Now I know ants have the same mass as humans, Thomas Jefferson was the first to serve macaroni in the white house, and the capital of Texas (Austin) rhymes with the capital of Massachusetts (Boston).
  • Emphasis on friendship and sacrifice for the ones you love.

Overall I feel kind of “meh” on this one. It certainly is not bad compared to other stuff out there, I just thought the bad outweighed the value.
