Many of Dav Pilkey’s books are not for me, but I generally like the Ricky Ricotta series.
Possible Concerns:
- Typical superhero story violence.
- Nuclear Energy Ruining Planet. There may be a slight environmentalist agenda here; the villain is motivated to come to earth after intoxicating his own planet as a nuclear waste dump.
- Hypnotism. The robot is hynotized by a giant girl-bot.
- Romance. The robot is hynotized by a giant girl-bot.
- Body humor. References to a bottom/butt and to a toosh.
Things I liked:
- Friendship. Ricky and his robot learn to find things to do together.
- This easy read is a hybrid between chapter book and graphic novel. It seems to be a great way to help reluctant readers keep reading.
Not my favorite in the series, especially with the romance and body humor. I’d probably skip this one without missing it.
