Rating: Needs Parent Supervision

Reading Level: Early Elementary

Many of Dav Pilkey’s books are not for me, but I generally like the Ricky Ricotta series.

Possible Concerns:

  • Typical superhero story violence.
  • Nuclear Energy Ruining Planet. There may be a slight environmentalist agenda here; the villain is motivated to come to earth after intoxicating his own planet as a nuclear waste dump.
  • Hypnotism. The robot is hynotized by a giant girl-bot.
  • Romance. The robot is hynotized by a giant girl-bot.
  • Body humor. References to a bottom/butt and to a toosh.

Things I liked:

  • Friendship. Ricky and his robot learn to find things to do together.
  • This easy read is a hybrid between chapter book and graphic novel. It seems to be a great way to help reluctant readers keep reading.

Not my favorite in the series, especially with the romance and body humor. I’d probably skip this one without missing it.
