Reading Level: Early Elementary

Many of Dav Pilkey’s books are not for me, Ricky Ricotta has been great.

Possible Concerns:

  • Typical superhero story violence.
  • Typical superhero sci-fi. The villain is an overgrown stink bug who pollutes.
  • Ricky doesn’t like to visit his relatives. This is somewhat resolved after he and his cousin fight bad guys together.

Things I liked:

  • Ricky is creative.
  • This easy read is a hybrid between chapter book and graphic novel. It seems to be a great way to help reluctant readers keep reading.

Overall, this action-packed book is easy to read.
