Rating: My bookshelf (for appropriate ages)!

Reading Level: Late Elementary

An archeologist and his two children adventure to a mysterious cave. Their faith in God helps them overcome superstition, and much greater peril.

Possible Concerns:

  • Superstition, Shamans, and pagan beliefs are battled by this family with resolute fiath in God and His protection.
  • Demons and Apocalyptic Events end up playing a strong role. It turns out some of the superstitions may have been grounded in truth.
  • Peril. Kidnapping, earthquakes, sabotage, and treachery make this an exciting (and at times horrifying) story that is perhaps best suited for late elementary and above. A mid-elementary kid with thick skin could probably handle it.

I loved that the family had resolute faith in God, prayed often, and treated each other with love, even when in peril. Two thumbs up, although there is some spookiness to be aware of.

I liked The Secret of the Desert Stone even more, and I think my 9-year-old will like that book even though this one is a bit too spooky for him.
