Reading Level: Early Elementary

Adorable illustrations complement this young reader chapter book about a puppy learning to herd sheep.

Possible Concerns:

  • Monsters. The dog’s friend says he saw a monster. It’s pretty tame; turns out it was a sheep!
  • Teasing. When the dog fails to climb a rock, the sheep make fun of him. He feels ashamed. Later, his friend helps him learn to climb rocks.

The pup is generally helpful to his family and listens to to authority/wisdom. I like that he is generally cheerful and curious.

I recommend Book1: Home is Where the Heart Is, Book 2: Raised in a Barn, Book 3: Herd You Loud and Clear, Book 6: Life is Good, and I really like Book 15: How to Spy a Spy! I have also reviewed Book 4: Fireworks Night.
