Rating: Neutral, with parent supervision

Reading Level: Early Elementary

This is my least favorite in the series because of the attention monsters.

Possible Concerns:

  • Potty Humor. The dogs mark their territory and are pictured peeing on a fort. The author says, “Do you know how dogs leave their mark? Well, let me tell you–it isn’t very pretty.”
  • Spookiness/Monsters. Bo’s friend Scrapper is obsessed with finding a monster. When Bo runs through the forest at night, the trees get spooky faces and branches look like claws reaching for him. It is playfully done and age-appropriate but sensitive kids may have trouble.

The puppy’s adventures with friendship, adventure, and fear are complimented by adorable pictures. Nevertheless, while I like most of the Good Dog books, this one is more meh because of the scary parts.

I especially recommend Book 2: Raised in a Barn, Book 3: Herd You Loud and Clear, and I really like Book 15: How to Spy a Spy!
