Although I like some books in this series, this one also leans a little to heavily on magic.
Elsa and Anna adventure to a land of perpetual summer to “help the summer queen learn to control her powers the way Elsa has.” It turns out she doesn’t have powers; it is just an arid climate. However, the ending doesn’t outshine the frequent reference to the summer queen’s strong powers, even if the girls are mistaken about the heat’s source.
Possible concerns :
- Magic. Anna and Elsa constantly focus on “the summer queen’s strong powers.”
Things I liked:
- No obvious political agendas.
- It wasn’t magic. The end the climate is just naturally sourced.
- Helping each other/trade. In the end Elsa says she can send ice from Arendale to help the summer queen’s people preserve their food.
I just generally like others in the series (they are less dependent on the occult) and I’d probably take a pass on this one.
I’d encourage readers to check out my reviews of Book 1: All Hail the Queen, and Book 9: Anna Takes Charge, both of which I liked a bit more.
