Rating: Needs Parent Supervision
Reading Level: Early Elementary
A child with a tendency to get “Super Fidgets” when stressed uses math to settle down and overcome warnings of having episodes while on a camping trip. His friends help him too.
Possible Concerns:
- Ghost stories. One character reads aloud how three teens sleep in a haunted house.
- Hurtful attitudes. The main character is not excited about a girl who is joining the trip, and doesn’t hesitate to treat her unkindly. In the end she ends up helping him with math.
- Wishing on stars.
Overall, I don’t like Max’s mean attitudes towards the girl, but this book might be helpful for some families by normalizing seizures and other neurodivergent episodes.
