More quirky silliness of The Princess Bride but with a bit more emphasis on the wizard/sorcerer side of things.

Possible Concerns:

  • Magic/Witches/Wizards. There is a protagonist wizard, and an antagonist sorceress. Moreover, the common princess tries her hand at magic. If your child is interested in witchcraft then there is the danger of them becoming interested, and in that case I don’t recommend this book. That said, the book is still child’s play compared to Harry Potter…
  • Romance. The sorceress bewitches men to be in love with her. The main male love interest eventually asks to court the princess. The love story is way more mild than most Disney Princess movies, but still has that clever writing that makes it entertaining for adults.
  • Peril. Giants, sword fights, natural threats, an enchanted forest with mystical dangers turning men into squirrels, dragons fighting humans…

I don’t like having books with witchcraft in my home, but the first book in the series, The Runaway Princess, was light and comical. This one wasn’t as good and had more sorcery.

Definitely start with The Runaway Princess.
