Rating: Needs Parent Supervision

Reading Level: Middle School

Nothing too concerning except stuff similar to other books in the series.

  • Torture. A man loses fingers, face skin, and other parts in torture.
  • Alcohol. A celebration with ale. An alcoholic avoids it.
  • Losing a parent. A girl’s grandfather (acting parent) is killed in a pirate raid.
  • Norse-ish gods (Gorlog’s beard, Loki-ish, a goddess of the dead.)
  • Peril. Sword fights, ax fights, murders, fist fights.
  • Romance. The boys take interest in a foreign girl. Nothing inappropriate.

Definitely read The Brotherband Book 1 (The Outsiders) first.

Consider also reading The Ranger’s Apprentice first. Here are links to my reviews of Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, Book 4, Book 5, Book 6, Book 7, Book 8, Book 9, Book 10, and Book 11 in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. Pay attention to concerns in Book 3 and Book 8.
