Rating: Needs Parent Supervision

Reading Level: Middle School

Nothing too concerning except that which appears in other books in the series.

  • Peril. Sword fights, knife fights, ship duels, bribery, pirate attacks.
  • Alcohol. Visits to taverns, feasts with ale.
  • Bias against women as storytellers. A girl spoils the surprise, and the boy comments that this is why women don’t make good storytellers.
  • Norse-ish gods (Gorlog’s beard, Loki-ish, a goddess of the dead.
  • Romance. Two friends take interest in a girl. Nothing inappropriate, no romantic touch or kissing.

Definitely first read The Brotherband Book 1 (The Outsiders) and The Brotherband Book 2 (The Invaders).

Consider also reading The Ranger’s Apprentice first. Here are links to my reviews of Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, Book 4, Book 5, Book 6, Book 7, Book 8, Book 9, Book 10, and Book 11 in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. Pay attention to concerns in Book 3 and Book 8.
