Rating: Needs Parent Supervision
Reading Level: Middle School
Nothing too concerning except that which appears in other books in the series.
- Peril. Sword fights, knife fights, breaking in and breaking out.
- Slave Trade. People are captured and sold into slavery.
- Alcohol. Visits to taverns, feasts with ale.
- Bias against women. In a foreign village women are not allowed in the gold market.
- Norse-ish gods and other pagan gods.
- Bias against Middle Eastern type characters. It’s like indiana jines and Narnia again. The villains wear turbans, and dress in middle eastern clothes.
- Muslim-ish style prayer, calling out from a tower several times a day, but to three gods, not one.
- Romance. Two friends take interest in a girl. Nothing inappropriate, no romantic touch or kissing.
- Lots of use of the term, “Shut up.”
Definitely first read The Brotherband Book 1 (The Outsiders), The Brotherband Book 2 (The Invaders), and Book 3 (The Hunters).
Consider also reading The Ranger’s Apprentice first. Here are links to my reviews of Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, Book 4, Book 5, Book 6, Book 7, Book 8, Book 9, Book 10, and Book 11 in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. Pay attention to concerns in Book 3 and Book 8.
