How to Best Utilize this Site

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!

Here are ways JesusLovesBookworms.com can help you parent your bookworm:

  • Decide whether a book is a good fit for your family. When you already have a candidate book, use our search tool to find one of our streamlined reviews which offers possible concrens. We want to help you decide whether it is a good fit for your family.

  • Parent your child while reading a book. There may be issues you’ve forgotten or discussions you ought to have with your child who is reading a particular book. I’ll be honest—I’ve been so surprised that even classics have possible concerns about which I have forgotten (e.g., Did you remember that some of the Little House books talk about hunting indians?! Not appropriate!). My reviews help notify/remind you of these issues so that you can have a conversation when you think it is necessary.

  • Discussion questions. For some books I offer discussion questions to help you and your child get the most out of the book. Homeschool moms: rejoice! Sometimes I even offer essay prompts. :)

I know that parents are always hungry for lists of recommended books, and while I recommend all the books that are rated as being on My Bookshelf, I will say that simply clicking on My Bookshelf alone isn’t really the way to go. There are a lot of books that Need Parent Supervision that I would highly recommend; they just need you to also have a conversation with your kid.

Bottom line: the purpose of this site is to help you parent with books you’re thinking about, by giving you a short, accessible review. You really need to do the work of looking over the review to decide for yourself. (But take heart! I use bullet points to make it easier!)
