Do you have a kid (or maybe the kid inside you) who just can’t seem to read enough? I’m here to help!
My name is Georgie and I love reading children’s chapter books for fun! As I enjoy stories, the teacher in me wants to bless all you moms and dads who need help finding books appropriate for your ravenous readers.
So here are some reviews from the perspective of a mom/teacher/author who adores Jesus and is utterly dependent on the hope that He brings.
I will occasionally include discussion prompts so you can engage with your kids about what they’re reading and shepherd their experiences.
My goal is to serve Jesus-loving families from a variety of denominations. Different families have different tolerances for violence, potty humor, the age of the earth, gender roles, etc. I have friends on both ends of the political spectrum, and I try to serve them all by highlighting potential issues; then they can decide for themselves. Something may be your issue which is not an issue for me, and visa versa. I give the rationale for my rating and offer suggestions why some families may or may not like it.
I read books you might find in your local public library, as well as those in your local Christian Book Supply store. You don’t really need me to review books from a Christian-affiliated publisher, but I enjoy those too. However, I think my most valuable contributions are reviews of the books I find in my local public library, thrift stores, or in mainstream bookstores. As such it is important to know that I review many books that I don’t recommend.
My focus is primarily on chapter books. Although I review some of my favorite picture books and board books, my primary focus is on chapter books that take time to uncover potential issues. This is because parents need help sorting through chapter books to find the issues; they’re easier to find in picture books.
Here you can check out descriptions of my Ratings.
How do you get started? If you have a book in mind, you can use the SEARCH feature on the home page. If you are just browsing for books to read you might try searching based on age level or my rating (in the top and side-bar menus). Enjoy!

Thank you for all the hard work you do. I came across your website today and I’ve already sent it to a couple of other homeschooling mamas. I was encouraged reading some of your concerns because they align with my own. And when I read your review of “My Father’s Dragon” it solidified that I felt I could trust your opinions because I was shocked when I read that book after all the good press it got. Thank you again, this is so helpful!

Thank you for this website. It is very helpful to me on many levels. I receive email notifications for your reviews and use them as a basis for book recommendations (aka which I think are wonderful tools for evangelism, and relational engagement). I am the son of a 91 year old elementary (former) school teacher / (still our family’s) librarian, who taught me to love Jesus and to love reading from infancy. I am husband to an elementary school teacher who is currently winding down her career, teaching third grade at a private school. I am an uncle to 8 yr old, 5 yr old, and just under 2 yr boys. I am a getting towards retirement Residential Broker and Appraiser, an on and off Sunday School Teacher, and Men’s group leader who is continually looking for opportunities to evangelize everyone with whom I come in contact (that’s what we “salesmen” do, right?). I am also over 35 yrs best friends with a recently retired middle school teacher, aspiring writer, bibliophile, accountability buddy who is from a very different christian and political background than myself. Books, THE good book included, are such a precious gift and resource in my life, especially in seeking to relate to, and/or influence others – plant, water, harvest, in Christ. Your website is a God send. I have been subscribed for roughly 1 year. I am very picky about what I take in (“be careful little eyes what you see” and I have always counseled my Sunday School students that this goes Double for grown ups : ). I just read your review of the “Green Ember” and am considering purchasing the book. It can be a bit tough to pick up on “new” material. I am an “anglophile”, and my favorite authors run in that vein, Austen, Dickens, Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis, etc. Also James Herriot! God Bless your family. Thank You for inviting comments, kindly keep up the good work, and I will keep you posted on the “Green Ember”.

Thanks for your thoughtful post, Michael @insightfulfa9fc6e62b ! I’m happy to serve in this way and glad you’re finding the this website helpful. I’m so encouraged! I agree that books are a precious gift and resource, and that we must be discerning about what we take in. I try to be less opinionated and rather just lay it out what any possible concerns may be; it is for parents to decide what is a good fit or not for their family. I’ll have to check out some James Herriot! Warmly, Georgie
