Rating: Some Families may like it

Like Book 1 in the series, this fantasy tale has wizards, magic, sorcery, and mystical dragons. There are a few other concerns that may (or may not) take it a step too far for your family:

  • Dark powers make a dragon sick, and the sibling dragon heals it with magic.
  • Telepathy: The dragon masters and the dragons masters via sharing thoughts in the mind (without speaking). So this ends up in the kids doing weird stuff because they think their dragon is telling them to.
  • Disobedience, & Lying to a villain: The main character fibs to cover for his mentor.

So far I just haven’t seen much in this series to get excited about. Unfortunately, I’ve felt the same way about other books by this author. If you are looking for a better dragon series, How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell is for an older (mid-late elementary) audience but has fantastic themes about humble service and living into your identity.
