Rating: Not for me
Reading Level: Early Elementary, Mid-Late Elementary
You’d think a graphic novel is a fun way to teach kids science, however not only did I have a hard time getting through this one but they also had a very strong evolution push, including some apes representing our ancestors, as well as mention of raptors as gods.
Possible concerns:
- Evolution, flow charts mapping dinosaurs to early birds to others, and apes representing human ancestors
- Idols, birds as gods.
- Blood, dead animals, the hunt, the circle of life.
Overall I think the bad outweighs the good in this one. Admittedly, my son, who loves birds, read it before me, so then we had a good chat about the concerns listed above. It was a healthy chance to talk about evolution and idol worship.
