Rating: My bookshelf
Reading Level: Early Elementary
Many of Dav Pilkey’s books are not for me, but I generally like the Ricky Ricotta series.
Possible Concerns:
- Typical superhero story violence.
- Name calling. Dumb, idiots.
- Parenting drama. Ricky’s dad and mom have different parenting strategies; this creates a bit of conflict between them.
Things I liked:
- Ricky generally has a good relationship with his parents.
- Innovation. Ricky and his robot build a fort when they are bored.
- This easy read is a hybrid between chapter book and graphic novel. It seems to be a great way to help reluctant readers keep reading.
Overall, this action-packed book is easy to read. There is a slight environmental bend creeping in; the villains destroyed Neptune by digging up fossil fuels.
