Rating: Needs Parent Supervision

Reading Level: Late Elementary, Middle School, High school

Fueled by a dream of a Kingdom ruled by honor, loyalty, and service, the rabbits rebel against their oppressors. One new possible concern is listed below.

Possible Concerns:

  • Genocide of young children. To punish the rebels, all young children are taken to the central square. Birds of prey swoop down and scoop up the young to be killed. Children, wailing, reaching for their parents. Although we see no gore, it is emotionally moving, as it was intended to be. In another town, it is leaked out that all young children are intended to be taken. This needs parent supervision for sensitive readers, as it is a bit traumatic.
  • Peril. As with book 1, wolves and birds of prey attack rabbits. Now there is treason and war. Slashes with swords, death, and fighting occurs, and the rabbits fight as they cling to hope and a dream.

The rabbits yearn for “the mended wood” the same way I yearn for the Kingdom of God.
