A girl and her new friend search for her missing adoptive grandfather.

Possible Concerns:

• Mental Health/Fear. The girls struggles with fear. In the book it is depicted by black vines that grow and tangle her into freezing. I don’t have diagnosed phobias, but I imagine the depiction is well-done and could be healing for those who struggle to see someone else wrestling with it.
• Adoption. The grandfather is not by birth. They don’t make a big deal out of it, but it’s worth mentioning.
• Peril. Sword fights, Being captured and roasted over a fire, chased by giant crabs…
• Fantasy. Definitely creatures, curses, etc. that are expected in fantasy.

Overall the agenda seems to be simply to share a capture friendship, optimism, courage, and adventure in a fantasy world.

Important note: Book 2 brings in pagan ideas and is not as favorable.
