Rating: Not for me
Reading Level: Mid Elementary
This was attractive to my kid because it’s yet another book about the Minecraft video game. But I had some serious concerns:
- Deceit. The kid lies to his dad, straight this face. He’s trying to catch a zombie but instead tells his dad he’s trying to grow mushrooms. Also the teachers encourage tricking and lying to others in trade.
- Selfishness. Overall this kid reminds me of the one in Diary of a Wimpy kid. No character, just in it for himself.
- Using the Lord’s name in vain. Use of terms like “Omg,” “Jeez”
- Tricking people. In addition to the aforementioned trade deceit, he tricks people and thinks of them as means to an end.
- Gore. Zombies, other gruesome characters
- Vengeance. The main character has complete hatred for a bully and says horrible things about him.
- Negative about school. He hates school and portrays school as not cool. He talks about getting beat up if you mention a school project
- Potty/Body humor. Fart jokes, poop weapons
- Name Calling. “Noob, “Loser”
Overall, the bad outweighed the good for me on this one. But if you are ok with Diary of a Wimpy Kid, you might be ok with this one too.
