A fantasy with strong biblical parallels, cleverly ranging from the garden of Eden through to Moses in the desert. The main character wrestles with loyalty to a king who seems absent at times.

Possible Concerns:

  • Peril. Fire, swordfighting, slavery, murder
  • A weird black parasite plague
  • Death of parent, a sibling, and a comrade.
  • Speaking to a dead parent in a time of distress and doubt. The boy asks his dead father if he knew how hard it would be.

Nobody prays to God, but there are no pagan gods and there is a clear God figure, who is The King. The author’s agenda is to underline trust in God.
