Legends of Zita the Space Girl (Book 2), A Graphic Novel by Ben Hatke

Reading level: Late Elementary

A space hero is booted out of her own life by a cloning robot. Although it’s pretty clean, I think the content may be too hard for for a younger audience to grasp, as the plot is a bit sophisticated.

Possible concerns:

• Immodest dress. A gypsy-style mentor-ish character has a crop-style shirt with her midriff showing
• Violence and peril. Aggressive police with weapons, punching, etc.
• Drama. An angry girlfriend “slaps” an ex with a mechanical arm.
• Grotesque space monsters.

I’m interested to see where the series goes; so far it is pretty clean. It was *so* refreshing to have a book about a brave girl with no romance or unicorns.
